Hello, thank you for visiting my profile. I am a Clinical Psychologist. I have worked in the NHS for over 30 years, the last 23 years as a Clinical Psychologist in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Throughout my career, I have been driven to provide thoughtful, compassionate, and evidence-based care.
In my NHS role, I ensure high standards of care and foster a culture of encouragement and collaboration. I bring this same commitment to excellence into my private practice, where I offer collaborative, client-centred work tailored to the unique needs of each person I work with.
As a Clinical Psychologist I completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Whilst this was now over 20 years ago I have continued to be inspired by learning and widening my skills and knowledge base. Further trainings have included Systemic Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Non-Violent Resistance (NVR).
I am grateful to work in a profession that relies on continuous learning, as this enables me to enhance and refine my knowledge and skills and continuously improve my clinical practice. My learning comes not just from formal training but from the many clients and colleagues I have had the privilege to work alongside. As both an experienced psychologist and a parent of teenagers, I bring professional and personal understanding to my work with families.
I have many areas of interest including Autism, ADHD, parenting, grief, neurodiversity, Learning Disability, anxiety, OCD. For the younger client group I also work with feeding, sleeping, toileting and behaviour challenges. Please do get in touch to see if I may be able to support you. There is further information available on my website www.drsonyakhan.co.uk.
Systemic Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Non-Violent Resistance (NVR).
Who I work with
I work with people across the lifespan, but much of my work is with families, children, young people, parents and young adults. An area I am particularly familiar with is supporting pre and post ADHD or Autism diagnostic assessments. Whilst I do not diagnose either, I am able to advise whether an assessment may be indicated. I can also work closely with you as an individual or you as a parent, and with your child, to develop ways to understand the particular impact of ADHD and Autism on you and how to live your life to the maximum with either/both of these diagnoses.
How I work
I offer in person and online appointments. I offer 1:1 work, parenting work, ADHD/Autism support and “coaching”, family work.
Fees per hour
Appointments are £160 for 50 minutes.
