Accepting new clients
I am an integrative counsellor (BACP reg.) who works 1-1 with adults of all ages. I treat each client as an individual shaped by unique past experiences and present circumstances. I can help you to explore difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours without judgement, to reframe your view and approach to the parts of your life that are troubling you, and to work towards greater understanding, change and peace of mind.
Before training in counselling at the Mary Ward Centre, I worked in the film industry for 20+ years, so I understand both the unique pressures faced by performers, artists and creatives, and the stresses that come with a high-pressure work environment.
We all go through difficult periods in our lives. Sometimes for easily identifiable reasons – bereavement, loss, heartbreak, employment stress, family or relationship difficulties, trauma. But sometimes things don’t feel right and we don’t know why, inexplicable dread or emptiness, often accompanied by shame or a fear of being a burden that makes it impossible to talk to loved ones.
Whether you are suffering from anxiety, stress, depression, low mood, low self-esteem or trauma, there is no need to suffer in silence. I will meet you with warmth, compassion, empathy and understanding. You will be listened to, accepted and valued in a safe, confidential space to which you can bring whatever troubles you. Together we can work towards a path forward.
My professional background means I’ve worked a lot with arts organisations and professionals. I’ve also worked extensively in higher education so I work well with young adults. And clients dealing with the legacy of childhood neglect or abandonment is a particular area of interest.
My initial training was integrative, drawing mainly on the person-centred and psychodynamic approaches. Working psychodynamically means looking at your past experiences and relationships to see how they shape the present. The person-centred part means working in the belief that the client will always be the best expert on themselves, and using our relationship to allow you to locate a more authentic part of yourself that may have become lost or suppressed, which you can reintegrate and act upon more regularly towards a more fulfilling life.
I undertake regular additional training, most recently in Somatic Trauma Theory & Skills, to expand my toolkit to better support clients who’ve experienced trauma or are dealing with the legacy of it.
Who I work with
I work with adults of all ages, 1-to-1.
Outside of private practice, I’ve worked for an NHS-affiliated service and in higher education, so I’m used to counselling people from a broad cross-section of demographics, nationalities and walks of life. I work in an inclusive way while always remaining mindful of difference and how that may impact our relationship and our work.
