Accepting new clients
Hello, I am Charlotte and I’m a counsellor and psychotherapist. I am also a trauma and complex trauma professional.
Clients of mine often say they ‘feel different, feel they don’t fit in’ or have a sense that ‘they are not able to function like “normal” people’. They find daily life hard, triggering and often overwhelming.
Usually, we start by speaking about how you have been in the last few weeks & months. We look at what issues you have been struggling with, and how you managed to cope. We also reflect on your support system and things which bring you joy. Then, we would talk about how life was like for you as a child, and how your experience has affected you. This can sometimes feel difficult to talk about but, so we will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, there is no rush.
Starting therapy can sometimes feel scary and unnerving but we will work together on how to make you feel comfortable and safe.
I put focus on the therapeutic relationship which means we will be working as a team to explore, process and make sense of what’s happened to you and what you are struggling with. I am offering a safe, non-judgemental space for you, in which you will be able to talk about and explore anything you want. Our relationship would be built on respect, trust and congruence. As a member of the BACP & an accredited member of the NCPS which means that I adhere to their ethical framework placing a strong value in diversity and difference.
I have extensive experience working with clients who have a wide range of needs. These include anxiety, stress, fears, phobias, traumatic experiences, childhood abuse & trauma, developmental trauma, childhood sexual abuse, depression, history of verbal, physical and sexual abuse, bereavement, identity issues, relationship and interpersonal difficulties, self-esteem, attachment difficulties, loneliness, psychosomatic difficulties and symptoms, anger, panic-attacks, OCD, loss, self-harm and intrusive thoughts.
As an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches tailored to the unique needs of each client. My work is grounded in psychodynamic theory, which helps explore unconscious patterns and early relational experiences that may be influencing current behaviour. I also integrate humanistic principles, creating a supportive, empathetic space where clients can develop self-awareness and self-acceptance.
In addition, I hold a certified qualification in trauma and complex trauma, which informs my integration of trauma-focused models, such as parts work and somatic approaches, to support individuals who have experienced complex or developmental trauma. This flexible, holistic approach allows me to meet clients where they are, promoting healing, resilience, and lasting change.
