Systemic individual, couples, and family therapy
I am a Psychotherapist (reg UKCP) having trained at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust qualifying in 2022 and working as a family therapist since 2016. I have been a registered Social Worker since 2011 and currently work as a Functional Family Therapist alongside my private practice.
I work relationally with you. This means that I see “problems”, not lying within individuals but developed within the patterns of relationships. As a Psychotherapist and Social Worker with over 12 years of experience of working with people in a relational way, I focus on being non-blaming, relevant and focussed on change. Often, we get so caught up in “the problem” that we find it hard to see the bigger picture. My therapeutic approach helps you to do this, helps you to relate to the problem differently and helps you to make changes that make a difference.
I work to establish a relationship build on trust and safety in a non-blaming space; not seeing you as the problem, your partner as the problem, your child or parent as the problem but THE PROBLEM AS THE PROBLEM (or pattern).
By understanding, seeing, and acting out relational patterns I can help you to make sense of where patterns of behaviour come from, how they evolve, how they impact on you in your everyday life. This is core of my practice; I work to help you to make real world changes that you will feel in the relationships you care about.
I work with a wide range of issues from individual seeming issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues; Couple issues such as feelings of growing apart, infidelity, sex/intimacy issues, through to family issues relating to family conflict and children behavioural issues, dealing bereavement, parenting/issues with children, divorce and custody issues. This is not an exhaustive list, and I would recommend that you inquire with me.
I see the world and everything we do in patterns not problems. You’ll recognise these patterns in your own relationships and probably call them problems. How the same arguments happen with your partner over the same things (no matter how small these thing seem!), how you feel anxious in the same situations at work regardless of how you try to think through it, or how your child displays the same behaviour over and over again no matter how hard you try to correct them.
As a systemic psychotherapist my role is to help you notice, understand and make changes to these patterns. This may be helping you to take on a different position to the pattern or activity do something with your family/ friends/ colleagues that starts to change the patterns. We might look at how different factors affect people within the system and help emphasise the strengths, resilience and resources available and how everyone helps contribute to the functioning of the patterns; not just the person we might say has the “problem”.
The aim is to help everyone understand each other, develop new ways to relate and communicate with each other. This can help create an environment in which everyone supports each other promoting health and wellbeing.
